This enchanting trek begins at the picturesque Queimadas Forest Park, a place that seems straight out of a fairy tale. From here, we follow the ancient Levada da Serra de São Jorge, one of Madeira’s most scenic trails, carved into the heart of the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage treasure.
As we walk along this lush, emerald-green corridor, the sound of birds and the gentle murmur of the water accompany us at every step. Soon, the dense forest opens up to reveal breathtaking views over the deep valleys and the charming village that stretches far below.
Continuing our journey, we pass through small tunnels carved into the rock, adding a touch of adventure to the experience. The path leads us to the magnificent Caldeirão Verde Waterfall, an awe-inspiring natural amphitheater where a slender curtain of water cascades from a height of over 100 meters into a crystal-clear lagoon, surrounded by vibrant mosses and ferns.
This walk is not only a feast for the eyes but also a moment to reconnect with nature, breathe pure air, and feel the serene magic that makes Madeira’s levadas so unique.
A fee between €4 / €11 per person must be paid directly to the Madeira Regional Government’s official authority. Payment is made at the start of the walk at the ticket booth located at the trail entrance.
